Elders Academy Press would like to help in developing a vision of a contemporary Elder, a person (or role) we are longing for in our turbulent times - someone who is able to embrace our differences, hopes, dreams and failures.

We would like to search for a clearer understanding of what this Elder might be by promoting ideas and values such as:

  learning to listen to the voices from within and without ourselves;
  being open to not-knowing and to the mysterious quality of life;
  responding consciously to the world as it is, not as it should be;
  making room for wisdom in our lives by going deeper into events;
  trying to understand the language of symptoms as guides for our lives;
  allowing space for questioning dominant models of life;
  changing patterns of automatic and reactive behaviors.

Because we live in a time where Time itself has become important to understand, we would like to make space for questioning our relationship to time, what Time does to us, what we do to Time.
This questioning encompasses also the desire for understanding our meaning and purpose, for looking at life from the different viewpoints and attitudes given by our many cultural, intellectual and spiritual traditions.
